Discover Brest
in North Finistère

You’ve just booked your bungalow at camping Ar Kleguer and you can already see yourself enjoying the pool under the Breton sun? Are you still hesitating about your next family vacation destination? And you’re wondering what you can visit from our campsite in North Finistère… Here’s a five-letter answer: Brest!

Located just 40 minutes from Saint-Pol-de-Léon and Ar Kleguer campsite, the largest prefecture town in Nord Finistère offers a wide range of activities, many of them focused on the ocean that has shaped the town over the centuries.

Brest’s immense port has a strong influence on the city’s history and economy. For a beautiful view of the harbor and naval base, head for the Kerbonne garden in the Quatre Moulins district. And if you prefer a more picturesque setting, we recommend the port of Maison Blanche, which, as its name suggests, is a former fishing village with multicolored huts.

If you’d like to travel back in time as much as the sea spray, you can embark on La Recouvrance from the commercial port. This magnificent topsail schooner, a replica of a 19th-century warship, offers full-day or half-day outings to discover the Brest harbor. Escape and a change of scenery guaranteed!

The city of Brest and its immediate surroundings offer a wide range of sporting activities, again with a strong focus on the ocean, so you can take full advantage of nature’s riches.

surfing the waves

Brest locals are very familiar with the “Petit Minou” spot, located just outside Brest. It’s the perfect place for surfing, in a small cove combining sand and rocks where the waves are ideal. The icing on the cake is the view of the Crozon peninsula! And if you’re just starting out, don’t hesitate to contact one of the many surf schools in the area.

Brest is magnificent to observe from the footpaths that follow the twists and turns of the harbor. For example, if you cross the emblematic Iroise bridge, you can discover Plougastel-Daoulas. Here, there are some twenty hikes to choose from, for all levels, with lovely panoramic views and pebbled shores beneath your feet.

It’s a well-known fact that it never rains in Brittany…

But if you choose a gloomy day to visit the Ar Kleguer campsite area, Brest has everything in place to protect you from the elements.

It’s the place to be for lovers of the sea and French naval history. Located in the Château de Brest, a listed historic monument, the museum takes you on an adventure to discover or rediscover the ship models, objets d’art and navigational instruments that have crossed the centuries as well as the oceans.

underwater life at oceanopolis

The Brest Aquarium is both a center for scientific culture and a place to discover the flora and fauna of the world’s oceans, to the delight of young and old alike. Sharks, penguins, jellyfish, otters, seals and lobsters invite you to discover the wonders of the silent world, from tropical seas to polar oceans. No doubt the whole family will return to the campsite with stars (of the sea?) in their eyes after this visit to Brest!
