The Pays du Léon: a must-see
in Finistère

In North Finistère, the Pays du Léon is waiting to welcome you. Its fertile soils are the source of the richness of this part of Brittany. This is reflected in the architecture of the remarkably well-preserved old town centers. In the heart of the Golden Belt coastline, beaches and heritage delight holidaymakers from Morlaix to the Baie du Kernic.

Although today Roscoff and Saint-Pol-de-Léon are the main towns in Léon, this historic region of Brittany originally extended as far as the western tip of North Finistère, with Brest as its capital. This already defined part of today’s North Finistère. Between land and sea, discover the must-sees and must-do’s in this land of rich Breton traditions.

Saint-Pol-de-Léon is one of Brittany’s best-preserved towns. A former episcopal city, its built heritage (cathedral, the Kreisker chapel, the highest in Finistère, the Prébendale house) seduces walkers. Strolling through its narrow streets is a must when you’re on vacation in North Finistère! The heritage tour offered by the tourist office guides you through the town center and its past.

Saint Pol is also an ideal starting point for exploring the Léon region. Head inland for a tour of the parish enclosures, a religious heritage unique in France.

On the program: Saint-Thégonnec or Guimiliau, with its free interpretation center. A stop in Morlaix is a must, to admire the architecture of its old town and its timber-framed houses.

On the seaside, go to :

  • Roscoff, for its intimate, lush Jardin Exotique, home to over 3,500 species of tropical plants, and for its old port, where you can set sail for the island of Batz;
  • Carantec, to enjoy the seaside resort and admire the Château du Taureau from the shore;
  • Plouescat, for its rich historical heritage, with its covered market, Vauban-era gunpowder store and menhirs.
